12A 1 (Summer 2020). What is the value of$$2^{1+2+3}-(2^1+2^2+2^3)?$$
12A 20 (Winter 2018). Suppose that on a parabola with vertex $V$ and a focus $F$ there exists a point $A$ such that $AF=20$ and $AV=21$. What is the sum of all possible values of the length $FV?$

12A 21 (Spring 2018?). The five solutions to the equation$$(z-1)(z^2+2z+4)(z^2+4z+6)=0$$may be written in the form $x_k+y_ki$ for $1\le k\le 5,$ where $x_k$ and $y_k$ are real. Let $\mathcal E$ be the unique ellipse that passes through the points $(x_1,y_1),(x_2,y_2),(x_3,y_3),(x_4,y_4),$ and $(x_5,y_5)$. The eccentricity of $\mathcal E$ can be written in the form $\sqrt{\tfrac mn}$ where $m$ and $n$ are relatively prime positive integers. What is $m+n$? (Recall that the eccentricity of an ellipse $\mathcal E$ is the ratio $\tfrac ca$, where $2a$ is the length of the major axis of $\mathcal E$ and $2c$ is the is the distence between its two foci.)

10A 22 (Summer 2019). Hiram’s algebra notes are $50$ pages long and are printed on $25$ sheets of paper; the first sheet contains pages $1$ and $2$, the second sheet contains pages $3$ and $4$, and so on. One day he leaves his notes on the table before leaving for lunch, and his roommate decides to borrow some pages from the middle of the notes. When Hiram comes back, he discovers that his roommate has taken a consecutive set of sheets from the notes and that the average (mean) of the page numbers on all remaining sheets is exactly $19$. How many sheets were borrowed?

10A 25 (Summer 2019). How many ways are there to place $3$ indistinguishable red chips, $3$ indistinguishable blue chips, and $3$ indistinguishable green chips in the squares of a $3 \times 3$ grid so that no two chips of the same color are directly adjacent to each other, either vertically or horizontally?

I can't tell if these are good or bad, or both, or neither. Maybe it doesn't matter. Regardless, five proposals is a lot :)

(I only tried the 10A problems):

#22). I fakesolved, but real solution looks pretty neat and slick; this was a little bashier than I would've hoped so I'll give it a $\boxed {9.5/10}.$

#25). The main observation was doing casework on the color occupying the center square. I saw this within 15 seconds after reading the problem, although being a cuber likely helped with this. If this was placed around #20 or #21 it would've fit perfectly :); $\boxed {10/10}.$
