CNY Break Reflection and Upcoming AMC 10B
by shiningsunnyday, Feb 13, 2016, 6:42 AM
Since my CNY (Chinese New Year) break is coming to an end, I thought I'd reflect about it. So what did I do?
I mastered 6 AIME tests.
Meh. My goal was to do a test everyday. I sort of fulfilled this. At first, I was in a slump. I constantly was getting 5's and 6's and sullying 4-5 questions per test. However, the last 2 tests I turned this around with a 10 (1 silly) and a 9 (2 sillies), though the tests are pretty easy compared to modern day standards. I think doing the AIME is like a stamina test. You have to have the stamina to think at a deep level about questions, compute the answer, and still have the energy to check it thoroughly afterwards. Often times, I run out of gas 30-45 mins left -- looks like I still need to extend my stamina.
I slept a lot... maybe too much.
My circadian cycle is so fixed now (it's never been this set before) that I can hardly get out of my 11 PM - 8 AM sleep period. So... great? However sometimes I feel kind of useless waking up really late.
I made an introduction into the world of mechanics!
Mechanics is a fascinating subject. Well, I've always wanted to explore it before but never had the resources to. I'll be competing in the Physics Bowl this year as well as the f=ma exam next year. My goal is HM on the semifinals next year. I'm working on College Physics, and hopefully can finish the book by May in time for registering for the online Areteem Institute Physics Challenge II -- Mechanics self-study class so I can work on it over the summer. I'll occasionally post a few basic mechanics problems after the AIME.
I planned this summer and next year.
After the AIME, I'll be applying to Math Camp and PROMYS (won't have time to work on the problem set beforehand
). If both of these reject me, I might just self-study an AoPS class or two as well as physics at home (or perhaps in a nice hotel room in Japan
).
Also, my dad and I signed up for this June's SAT II USH and Math Level 2 tests (yay... more things to study for after the AP exams). Also, we decided on my courses for next year, which will most likely be (but subject to change): AP Stats, AP Physics C, AP Bio, AP Comp Sci, AP Chem, Advanced Chinese, Nonfiction Literature.
...And...I procrastinated a lot.
I watched some TV shows, went to the cinema a few times. But who cares? I would feel irresponsible to my mental and bodily health if I don't relax during this break.
Anyways, that's it!
Some miscellaneous things going on in the near future:
I MIGHT take the Interm NT class starting after the AIME, if I think I'm not too busy by then. Also, the AMC 10B is on Wednesday! I'm excited to boost my score from a 129 to perhaps a 135, as I really don't want to head into the AIME knowing I must solve 9 questions. 8 questions seem more reasonable. Other than that, there isn't much pressure for me. Also, I'll be taking the AIME seminar tomorrow and the day after that in the morning at 4: 30 AM.
Wish you all good luck on the 10B!
