AMSP Days 5, 6, 7 (last post before blog going private)

by shiningsunnyday, Jul 27, 2016, 7:23 AM

For the first time, my crazy roommate managed to wake up after 6 AM. I woke up at 9 after going late into the night watching Kpop:

^^which I realized is an amazing educational source for amateur flirters (I took some notes). My dreams of grandeur were ended when Raymond24Y and flash12 (not sure) came, and I mainly spent the morning procrastinating and playing I Dare You.

At one point, Liu (friend) had to the following dare: knock on a girl's room until someone answers, ask, "Do you have tickets?" at which point the girl will say "To what?" "The GUN show" (curls biceps). His task was made even more difficult by the fact Liu went to the same room flash12 did a similar dare on just minutes ago: go to the girls' room, ask: "Is my friend [friend's name] in here? Because I just got a text from him saying he's here."

What's even funnier is the Chinese accent of Liu, combined with the fact he's a stereotypical antisocial nerd (like me), having the courage to do something like this:

According to Liu:
Dare wrote:
Liu: *knocks*
Girls: Come in.
Liu: *knocks again, expecting someone to open door*
Girls: Come in!
Liu: *hesitates, knocks third time*
Girls: JUST. COME. IN! (they were kind of agitated since remember, flash12 was here just mins ago)
Liu: Huh huh low *scans room, sees 4 beautiful girls, oh no*
4 Girls: What?
Liu: Do, yu have ah teekets
Girls: *shocked*
Liu: Do yu have de teekets
Girls: To what!?
Liu: Um, the gun show. *raises arm and curls biceps*
Girls: *speechless*
Girls: You shouldn't be on this floor, GET OUT!
Liu: *runs away*

After a lazy lunch, it was time for Sunday fun day, which many other campers already posted about, the highlight of which was the game of 24 (much harder than it sounds, since the numbers are extremely difficult). My arithmetic prowess took a huge hit once I realized our opponents were a full group of girls. But after all, my RA group is Chinese, and 24 is an extremely popular game in China, so we ended up getting second place over all groups (one behind first).
Pregame wrote:
Me: *covers face immediately once I realize our opponents are all girls*
Bruce: Hey Michael do you want to switch seats so your back is facing the girl.
Me: Yes right good idea
People: *laughs*
Girls: *glares*
Midgame wrote:
Group: OK GO GO GO NEXT PROBLEM.
*silence for a while, it was a hard problem*
Me: *turns around and sees if I can spy on the girls, and may have held my stare a bit too long*
Daniel: Yo, Michael, what are you looking at
Group: *bursts into laughter*
Girls: *Silence*
My RA group...  :D

After Sunday Funday, we had an early dinner and I attempted to be productive in my dorm, and watched some Kyrie Irving highlights. I had a ton of fun during basketball (ended up more than 2 hours!). I scored 7-8 buckets, total, though only 1 in the last hour or so, most of which were driving layups since there weren't any shot-blocking bigs (and also because prior to this I haven't shot a jump shot for like half a month. After half, some people started calling me Kobe (prob cause of my shoes), so yay. I met some new people, and was exhausted by the end to the point I couldn't feel my legs. Then Daniel and I came back and I brought out my speaker phone and blasted TFBOYS while showering. :coolspeak:

The next morning, I was woken up super early for no reason (for breakfast, apparently), and I was heavily sleep deprived on the bus there (I listened to romantic songs while sharing an earbud with Daniel on the bus there). Because were near the front, I was within flirting range of 3 girls on the aisle seat, 2 of which are kind of cute. I then began making a lot of mental preparation, which may have took a bit too long since by the time I was ready, we were already back home. The actual museum trip wasn't very much interesting -- I got to get closer with my RA group. At the opening trailer in the theater, I was dared to sit on the girls side, and in return my RA group will follow. I plopped myself a seat away from a cute white girl, but was heartlessly asked to shift 2 seats away to save room for her friends. I ended up sitting next to a girl who glared at me with a I-know-what-you're-thinking-but-no look right as she took a seat, and trust me, that wasn't the last time she did that.

Boeing also brings back many memories -- back when I used to want to be an aeronautical engineer (I was a die-hard aviationerd when I was small). I also love Boeing's mission of innovation, inspiring to say the least.

The rest of the night just consisted me of doing some Geo 3 problems, nothing noteworthy.
This morning, my crazier-by-the-day roommate's alarm went off at 4: 30, though I managed to wake up at 7: 30. My legs were still sore from the day before, and I struggled to make it to breakfast.

Then I died in Combo 3. Let's just say most of my classmates didn't make it past the first 20 mins. Vlad's notation combined with his pace and the difficulty of the theorems was enough to demoralize me to the point this is how my notes looked like:

Neither did I make much progress on the problem set.

At break, I tried to get some fresh air, which was far from successful. I walked out into the hall, saw the super pretty girl, and buried my head and went back to looking productive.

Geo 3 was much more enjoyable, and I learned some classical results as well as beautiful configurations. I met agbdbirdyface who's cool and for the first time I no longer feel the effects jet lag, so I was more alert and activeduring class. The problems are also really good (and I would've kept working after dinner had I not felt obliged to at least show up for office hours for Combo 3).

After dinner, I went to office hours, and Combo 3 was so ridiculously hard I joked to Edward (classmate): "I'm doing fine with the problem set, just a bit confused about how to begin problems 1-4 (they were precisely the fundamental theorems we proved in class)." I searched up the first theorem we proved in class, and there was a paper written by Terrence Tao on it in which he labelled it appropriate for a "mediocre PHD student in combinatorics."

Then I RIPed, both figuratively and literally (ripped a page), and walked to the gym to see if the game looks interesting. I met up with darn-I-forgot-his-name and some of his friends on the way to there. At first, I didn't want to play cause I was wearing my PJ's underneath and because my legs are still sore from the day before as well as the fact I should at least try to study for Combo. But man, the game called for me, and I played for a bit more than hour, 5-on-5, in which I scored more efficiently than yesterday (though my start was slow cause of my leg pain) and scored like 4 baskets in the first 5-10 mins, but I enjoyed my matchup, though I may have been calling for the ball a bit too much.

After that, I came back, walked past Daniel playing a romantic song on the piano in the lounge while a few girls sat on the couch listening intensively, showered, and had the RA meeting, where we were asked to think of quotes, which was a painstaking decision since Liu produced so many quotes to choose from. Ultimately, many of us decided to go with Liu's famous quote: "I'm excited in my pants." Actually, it was brought up by Andy, but Liu used it to perfection. So 7 people on my RA group including me chose that as our yearbook quotes.

...And that was that, I'm way past curfew right now. Night. The blog will go private tomorrow (comment/PM/shout for access), and I'll explain further my decision to do so once it does.

The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.
