Ok, this is gonna be a long comment, but I feel really strongly about this, and I know how you feel flec. Just a warning, this is pretty graphic. Nobody does their research before getting bunnies or hamsters or anything and I see so, so many bunnies in little tiny cages eating pellets with no affection and there’s nothing I can do about it. But I’m just gonna tell one story right now. There’s this one boy I know who’s nine or ten years old. He and his little sister have two bunnies. Well they used to have three. These bunnies can barley turn around in their cages, their not fixed, are on wire bottoms so they have sore hocks, and are completely alone. But that’s not the worst part. The parents decided to let them get a baby bunny, who wasn’t even old enough to stop nursing. They put this baby in the one foot space their girl rabbit has, saying “she’ll be like her mom!” She wasn’t fixed, so obviously she was territorial and angry because she was so lonely. She attacked the baby and the baby got a hole through her ear. Then these kids start doing all sorts of horrible things to the baby, even SWINGING IT BY ITS HEAD. I tried to keep a level head but the more I asked him the stop the more he did it. I was almost in tears and he was laughing. The baby died the next day, but not before screaming. Bunnies scream and it sounds like a human child, and they only scream if they’re certain they are going to die a horridly painful death. The worst thing is that their parents tolerated all of this, and even bought them a new baby bunny afterwards. I’m really sorry for the dark comment, but I feel like it had to be said. PLEASE do your research before getting a small animal, just like you would a cat or a dog.

@bookworm
*inhale*
Okay, that bunny did NOT deserve that, and like what flec said, glad that he's in heaven now, he didn't deserve to be with that family
Oh and @OP, dang, the hamster didn't deserve that either
I have a friend whose hamster died when she was 5and still in Russia. I don't know how long it lived though
her dad told her to throw it to him and said he'd catch it. I forgot what happened next- either her dad caught it but it died a few days later (correlation or causation? Then I don't know), or he caught it then dropped it and then it died.
I don't really blame her (I blame the dad) since she was 5 so she didn't really know what to do but yeah
