[september 11th] 9/11 anniversary
by flec, Sep 11, 2022, 9:03 PM
hi there ;; i feel like most of the posts about 9/11 fail to show how truly important // horrifying this day was
in truth, 9/11 isn't a day that can be represented by the words "rip". there is far more not known that should be recognized in order for us to be able to empathize, remember, and honor.
many of the passengers in the hijacked planes were simply planning to travel somewhere when their plane was suddenly turned. after digesting the fact that their likelihood of survival was low in just minutes, they had to make their last calls to their family members.
message from brian sweeney to his wife
“jules, this is brian. listen, Iim on an airplane that’s been hijacked. if things don’t go well, and it’s not looking good, i just want you to know i absolutely love you. i want you to do good, go have good times. same to my parents and everybody and i just totally love you and ’ill see you when you get there [heaven].”
message from brian nunez to his brother
"a plane crashed into the trade center. it’s on fire, and i’m in it, and i can’t breathe. tell everyone i love them, and if i don’t get out... goodbye.”
message from ceecee lyles, flight attendant, to husband
"hi baby. i’m, baby, you have to listen to me carefully. i’m on a plane that’s been hijacked. i’m on the plane, i’m calling from the plane. i want to tell you that i love you. please tell my [four] children that i love them very much. and i’m so sorry baby. i don’t know what to say. there’s three guys, they’ve hijacked the plane… we’re turned around and i heard that there’s planes that have been flown into the world trade center. i hope to see your face again, baby. i love you. bye.”
a lot of people, when asked about what happened during 9/11, state that there were planes that flew into the world trade center and caused them to collapse. however, there are more details and messages to that -- there were normal people, hoping to travel and get to their destinations, in that plane when it crashed. and in one of those planes, the flight attendants and passengers rebelled and the plane crashed onto the ground instead of the towers. 400 of the fatalities on 9/11 were firefighters, and even more were parents -- 3,000 children lost a parent on 9/11.
i just wanted to share some more insight on 9/11. the day feels to us like any other day, but 21 years ago, to the people that experienced it, what happened in new york city was unexplainable and many still cry on this day while we live our everyday lives.
september 11th may be a normal day, a birthday, or anything else -- but it's also a memory.
