[september 11th] 9/11 anniversary

by flec, Sep 11, 2022, 9:03 PM

hi there ;; i feel like most of the posts about 9/11 fail to show how truly important // horrifying this day was
in truth, 9/11 isn't a day that can be represented by the words "rip". there is far more not known that should be recognized in order for us to be able to empathize, remember, and honor.

many of the passengers in the hijacked planes were simply planning to travel somewhere when their plane was suddenly turned. after digesting the fact that their likelihood of survival was low in just minutes, they had to make their last calls to their family members.

message from brian sweeney to his wife
“jules, this is brian. listen, Iim on an airplane that’s been hijacked. if things don’t go well, and it’s not looking good, i just want you to know i absolutely love you. i want you to do good, go have good times. same to my parents and everybody and i just totally love you and ’ill see you when you get there [heaven].”

message from brian nunez to his brother
"a plane crashed into the trade center. it’s on fire, and i’m in it, and i can’t breathe. tell everyone i love them, and if i don’t get out... goodbye.”

message from ceecee lyles, flight attendant, to husband
"hi baby. i’m, baby, you have to listen to me carefully. i’m on a plane that’s been hijacked. i’m on the plane, i’m calling from the plane. i want to tell you that i love you. please tell my [four] children that i love them very much. and i’m so sorry baby. i don’t know what to say. there’s three guys, they’ve hijacked the plane… we’re turned around and i heard that there’s planes that have been flown into the world trade center. i hope to see your face again, baby. i love you. bye.”

a lot of people, when asked about what happened during 9/11, state that there were planes that flew into the world trade center and caused them to collapse. however, there are more details and messages to that -- there were normal people, hoping to travel and get to their destinations, in that plane when it crashed. and in one of those planes, the flight attendants and passengers rebelled and the plane crashed onto the ground instead of the towers. 400 of the fatalities on 9/11 were firefighters, and even more were parents -- 3,000 children lost a parent on 9/11.

i just wanted to share some more insight on 9/11. the day feels to us like any other day, but 21 years ago, to the people that experienced it, what happened in new york city was unexplainable and many still cry on this day while we live our everyday lives.

september 11th may be a normal day, a birthday, or anything else -- but it's also a memory.

only 3000 casualties? compare it to the holocaust, WHICH MIND YOU DOESNT HAVE A POST ON THIS BLOG(correct me if im wrong), which has 6 million casualties, a majority of which were torturous killings(gases and experiments), and all of which were racist killings.

no offense intended.

I mean u have a point but 3000 casualties is still 3000 casualties
Just bc there have been more horrific incidents in human history ddoesnt mean that these deaths cannot be recognized or matter less than the deaths during more tragic events
u didn’t say it that way but thats kind of the message I got from reading ur comment
sorry if that wa mean :/

compare it to spanish flu 1918 with at least 50 million deaths

tbh i think it's really rude of you to say "only 3000 casualties" as if that's not a big deal. imagine if it was one of your loved ones who died -- even if it's 1, 2, 50 people who died it's still people with a family / loved ones that died and it's truly heartbreaking for a lot of people.
yes the holocaust had a higher death count but it doesn't mean i should be posting the holocaust and prioritizing it on september 11th, which is a day to remember 9/11. neither 9/11 ;; holocaust is more important than the other.

i don't take offense from your post but i feel like if said to the wrong audience, esp those to the families of the dead, it can be really upsetting and it's far off base anyhow

I just want to comment that U.S.'s response to 911 killed 300 times as many people as 911 itself

@cloudybook

how about we remember every day of the year because on average, atleast 8000 americans die everyday and these deaths dont matter more than other tragic events.

@awesomeming

well said, there should be spanish flu remembrance day because we all really love acknowledging life tragedies which effect a small minority of us.

@flec

yes, 9/11 is a big deal. but its kind of overrated
the problem is practically nonexistent now and there is no point in remembering for most of us. i dont know and never met a single person who has died 21 years ago, and even if i did, i wouldnt want to be reminded of it every year.
you dont need to remember the holocaust or in fact any kind of tragedy.

@awesomeming

there we go

the event itself might be unimportant to you but what about the messages it holds? the holocaust happened because people couldn't accept each other. 9/11 happened because of problems we failed to solve. the spanish flu spread because of our lack of understanding of safety. these problems still happen today and would be even worse if we hadn't solved them due to those life lessons these events gave us.

yes, 8,000 people die every day. that's significant too. but 9/11 lost 3,000 people that could've lived. 3,000 people that could've lived longer and their lives to the fullest.

it's not remembering how and why they died, it's about remembering their memory and what they did for us. a lot of people sacrificed themselves and it's the reason why a lot of us are still here today

ur opinion is totally valid -- sorry if what im saying makes you think that way -- i just want ppl to recognize that there is more behind the stories

what happened, happened
the world would be so much better now without it (somewhast lenient military restrictions)
but you know we had to adapt to how other countries responded
