my mom got into some drama looking for some competition math tutors to help me for amc10 next year

and here is the conversation

mom: hi, is this [ ]?

karen: yes

mom: hi, i'd like to enroll my child in advanced amc prep class for amc10 and 12

karen: okay, what was your child's score this year and any past amcs

mom: 81 on the 10, 16 on amc8 as a 5th grader.

karen: well, did she do any competition preps after her good score as a 5th grader?

mom: not really.

karen: well then obviously she doesn't have much potential

mom (getting defensive): she raised her amc score by 30 in 3 days

karen: so? an 81 is still extremely low. is she even good at math?

mom: she's the only freshman in her precalc class.

karen: does she attend school at [insert very smart city in my state]

mom: no, she attends [ ].

karen: well that school is easier then right?

mom: wtf???

karen: students at [smart city] do better than your student's school by far. your child obviously has no potential

mom: ... kkay then. bye

karen: bye

kkay that karen was honestly right i really do suck at math. i have a lack of experience, lack of memorization skills for formula, and a lack of passion

but thanks lady because you people kind of give me more motivation and i am acing the 2024 amc 8 right now (solved 4/5 final fives with ease)

i was so mad at my mom smh she has always been sort of a conflict avoider like me but i had a scuffle with her about how she should have given my better math statistics (national 3rd place winner for a mental math competition, ksa 3rd place winner, 1st place team for [region reveal] math competition, mathcounts 2nd rank winner)

yes, these are all from when i was ~8 years old

still that woman doesn't have to know that you know...

i was like "mom after telling her all of that and she starts to hesitate you should've said "nah i'm good" and cut her call

mom was like "it's not worth itt"

i told her it IS worth it, not because you get something physically out of it but because it makes you FEEL GOOD and proud and flame war winning is extremely fun

she was just shrugging her shoulders and going like what a b- to that woman and then told me flec you better get a 130 on amc this year so i can call her again

i mean, i guess. would be fun. gave me a new boost of motivation
