[1/31/2024] gas leak at our school

we had to evacuate and everything + a kid went and stole something + my asian mom's reaction to her daughter being in danger + first things i would take in an emergency
so we were in fifth period (i was in my ap class not understanding what the hell polar molecules are)
then the fire alarm started sounding? like it was so loud too
at first i thought it was a phone alarm because there's someone in my class with a ringtone that sounds like a fire alarm but when i looked around the lights from the fire alarm thing were flashing so i was like oh is this real?
we had had a lockdown drill the day before too so we knew that it wasn't another drill because they don't come consecutively and also it spreads around the school like wildfire so we would've known
so basically the whole school was walking to the football field which is like 0.1 miles away from our actual building and we were walking on the road too because there were so many people
my friend and i were supposed to go to the tennis courts but we went to the football fields instead so we tried to blend in with some seniors which was pretty fun because we weren't taking it very seriously at all
while the chaos was happening one kid got the bright idea to steal a tire
my friend's friend interviewed him after he got the tire and the kid said he was selling it for "3 dollars and " which was interesting
we were so pissed because the whole thing lasted less than a period and i was starting to become delusional about missing school for the next week and missing finals and the whole school exploding which frankly, i wouldn't be complaining
mr. principal went on the announcements loudspeaker thing and was like "heheh oopsies that was a gas leak uh a pipe burst and yeah your parents have been notified yeah"
funny thing is: i called my mom during the whole thing and was like "mom a pipe exploded we all evacuated there are fire alarms and everything we're outside right now"
she said: "kkay ru cold? u have your jacket right. kinda chilly today"
our call lasted 15 seconds
funny how she can make a big fat deal over my tardy today in math from going to the bathroom (our school has this stupid rule that you can't go for the first or last 10 minutes of class and i didn't know my math teacher actually cared about it until he marked me today)
yet not give two craps about whether her child is near a school that had a gas leak that might be dangerous or whatever which was kinda ironic
i learned something about myself today i guess
when we were evacuating and first got the news
the first things i grabbed were
1) my phone
2) carrot mechanical pencil
apparently this is worth more than my chromebook, earbuds, homework, backpack, and my food now
what the actual hell flec my life is actually falling apart without me knowing it if i'm prioritizing a $3 mechanical pencil over 50 pages of school homework and a 500 dollar school laptop and food. disappointed in myself
