3rd place overall, four games played over a period of 7 hours — summary + review + new coach!
so as you guys know this is my first year playing on a travel team :0
most of the people from last year moved up to this team but we have five new people on our team and a new coach as well!
here are some updates and hopefully none of them ever end up finding this blog
most of them improved a LOT and i was super happy because we can finally have pass/set/hit’s consistently. i think i improved pretty well too but i am still hoping to improve my offense a little bit. my position on the team as of now : DS/OH/SS (i serve for people sometimes so). i also used to play libero but i don’t anymore because we have another libero who is not open to any other position atm.
———————————————————————————————
game 1 : a 14’s team
we lost
in my defense though we were not very warmed up because we started with reffing…
buttttt it was a very close game with the set being 24-26
they are a very solid team too even though they are younger than us and their defense is very good along with their serving.
our serve receive is a little bit iffy which is probably why they killed us because good serving yeets bad defense out of the court
game 2 : 15 B team
18-21, 15-10 so we pulled a win with 33-31 (we only play two sets and go by points)
they were pretty similar level to us but slightly lower in my opinion. our skill MAD (hahah math!) is much higher than theirs in my opinion, as they only have a few good players on their team whereas our team is more widespread.
we were a little down in the first set (we play to 21 because of time limitation which is annoying because i think we could’ve edged them out) but we caught up in the second set!
I GOT A BLOCK TOUCH!!!!!!!! WHOA
game 3 : 16 C team
they had 6 players at the beginning of the tourney and then 2 people left so they had four. they forfeited. we won.
game 4 : 15 C team
25-13 or something but we only played one set and we completely crushed them. our defense was very good and our lib went on a serving streak too, which was really funny because liberos don’t even serve that often as you get higher level and they fell apart so much in the end that they were shanking serves they shouldnt have been lol
my statistics (these aren’t too accurate because i’m approximating most of them but i will rewatch the recordings later to get an exact stat which i prob won’t post but will keep in mind to compare next tourney lol)
serving mistakes: 1 (UGH i nerfed my VERY last serve)
serving percentage: about 99%, with a little less than 30 total serves and making all but one
serving aces: around 8/30, which is pretty good
kills: 5/9 (not sure, but i definitely hit positive which is a good thing!)
hitting errors: NONE! i made all of my hits, although not all of them were kills. but kills are hard anyways and i’m glad i made no mistakes with my offense.
sets played: 8/8 played, 7 full sets and 1 half set
digs: a LOT lol as an outside hitter i played middle back and all of the teams seemed to hit it to me and send me flying all over the place which was exhausting considering that i am a high schooler that just finished finals. i am not sure about the exact number but i think i dug around a 2–i had a good defense day today gg
overall comments
OMG MY COACH DIDN’T YELL AT US A SINGLE TIME THE ENTIRE TOURNEY BRO!!!
i know this is supposed to be a “normal” thing but after the coaches i’ve had in the past this was honestly like heaven
compared to our last club coach is was like going from hell to heaven bro and heaven as in the actual thing
she seems pretty chill ngl i don’t know her that well yet but she’s young and stuff and not the person to yell lol
she personally told us that she won’t get mad unless we’re disrespectful which hopefully won’t happen the entire season since most of my teammates are pretty skilled + sweet + we are friends.
good day! i didn’t know if i would make it through but i did and although playing all the sets was a little tiring i had a lot of fun!
i almost cried
