purple shirt theory

what if you were wearing a white shirt and someone walked by and said "your purple shirt is so ugly!"
you probably wouldn't be bothered at all, because you know for a fact you're not wearing a purple shirt so they must be out of their mind.
same goes if you know you're a strong person, and someone calls you weak, or some other insult. you know it's not true, so it doesn't affect you in the slightest.
i think this is why it's so important to be confident in yourself and know who you are so that you can clearly differentiate comments you should be taking seriously and not be hurt by comments that are untrue, mean, and are from malicious intentions
it's really hard to know yourself sometimes, especially when someone is insulting you, but trust your instincts.
if you think something about yourself and have genuine people important to you tell you the same thing, you probably can describe yourself with that trait. don't ever doubt something about yourself because some people tell you something.
i watched this theory on a youtube short by jazmine tan and thought it was really inspirational so i decided to post it here! i refined some of her words and added on a little bit but otherwise it's basically what she said. you should check out her channel btw she has the best personality ever and really helped me through some hard times (i admit some of those hard times were when i was stressing over why my setting spray won't work)
