MATHCOUNTS Day 2

My not-quite-a-prediction of the state winner held true, and my home state will be bringing the prize back to California!
The Countdown Round was as entertaining to watch as always. For those of you who watched it online, I'm curious if it captured Scott Wu's focus when he was doing the problems. I've often wondered at the mental state the super-fast students get themselves into to process the information so quickly (especially after seeing Anderson from PA a few years ago -- his reading speed was simply not human). Scott physicalized it in a way I don't think I've ever seen before. I found watching him absolutely fascinating, and I'm very impressed with Shyam for beating him, and of course, impressed with Mark Sellke for defeating Shyam in turn.
I was happy to see that they included at least a few much harder problems in the later rounds. Perhaps next year they'll have some more hard problems on the tests (I think there were 6-7 45s this year, which is 5-7 too many
).
I also have to give props to Lou, who has a second calling as a game show host when his days as Executive Director of MATHCOUNTS are over.
