An important blog entry for all of you getting started who wonder in amazement at the students who seem to know so much more than you do:

You worked in Wall Street, right?
How strong math skills did you need?

I did work for a trading firm. To do what I did, you need very strong math skills. There are non-mathy jobs that are good jobs, but having math (and computer) skills gives you many more options.

What exactly did you do? Price bonds? Technical analysis on stocks? Manage Portfolios?

Kinda tough to describe. I had very wide-ranging responsibilities. I wrote code to price weird bonds, developed strategies for various markets, and traded securities on many different markets. I don't think there are many positions out there quite like mine was. I was one of the first people into a group that grew quickly in a short amount of time, so I ended up wearing a lot different hats.
