MATHCOUNTS Chapter Update

We had a fun time at the MATHCOUNTS Chapter - our SDMC/AoPS student won the written and the countdown, and will have a very good shot at making the state team. I gave a brief talk about our work at AoPS, USAMTS, and SDMC, but I'm afraid I'm simply not a great salesman. However, some of the SDMC parents acted as my 'ground troops', handing out flyers. We'll see how it goes - 3 of the top six students were 6th or 7th graders from the same school. If we could get them onto AoPS or into the SDMC, they might be able to give the Bay Area a run next year, which would be cool. It would be nice to start building a stronger math culture in southern California. . .
