Thomas Jefferson: Geek and Show-off

by rrusczyk, Jan 20, 2009, 10:36 PM

I think nothing captures these two aspects of Jefferson's personality as succinctly as a brief note in a book I'm reading about wine, in which it is claimed that Jefferson served as sommelier for his White House, and insisted that each bottle of wine at state events served exactly three and one-sevenths people. (Can't help to think bottles must have been much larger back then...)
