My Hometown in the "News"

Arguably the most popular weekly NFL column is TMQ by Gregg Easterbrook. If not the best weekly column, it's certainly the longest.
This week, he made a snarky comment about my old hometown, which recently named a road after Philip Rivers, the San Diego Chargers quarterback. He wrote:
You can straighten the author out by telling him about AoPS here. Yeah, I don't know if I'm enough of substance to name a street after me, but Easterbrook will be amused to hear that someone from Decatur has done something more than throw a ball. To his credit, he clearly has a strong geek streak himself (which is one of the reasons I like reading his writing), so I'm guessing he'll get a kick out of AoPS.
You can read the whole article here, but you might want to search it for "Decatur" to get right to this bit. You'll have the added benefit of seeing the San Diego Charger cheerleaders, which I mention because the young woman in the center of the front row of the picture checks me into the gym every day. You might think she gets hassled at the gym all the time... On the contrary, her dad owns the place, and, well, here are a couple pics of her dad. Goes by the nickname "Maddog" in bodybuilding circuits. No one messes with his little girl.

There is now a Philip Rivers Drive in Decatur, Ala. Rivers is 26 years old and throws a ball for a living. Has Decatur, Ala., never produced a person of substance to honor?
