At least someone's paying attention

OK, it comes from the folks that run RSI, so they're in a place to know. But at least there's one press outlet willing to print an opinion that says students at the high end of the curve are not only important, but getting badly underserved. Read for yourself.

This is a bit OT, but could you blog about how to prepare for the countdown round of higher level (state/nats) mathcounts? Speed and accuracy in general is something I need to work on, though your other article helped greatly.

Aren't you the one who has been persistently bashing mathcounts, specifically the countdown round?

I think your time would be better spent preparing for the AIME.

Good article, although I don't see education in America trying to implement those ideas anytime soon.

@PenguinIntegral: Why is nats important if you have already obviously mastered Mathcounts level material? Going to nationals is a superficial reward. Gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for mathematics is a reward that will stay with you throughout your life.

That is not to say that I dislike MathCounts, I just think that in your personal case, there are better things to do with your time.

Yeah, but to fail sate mathcounts after lecturing my parents on how easy and trivial it is makes me look like an idiot and restricts my other choices...

That was a great article. How long is it going to take educators to really take the initiative and support math and science so that the U.S. can retain its technological and economic prominence?

This is a frustrating situation. I hope that it changes soon.

Yeah, like before for Taiwan people, if you get a gold medal at I*O, then not only do you get grand money from the government, but they also give you full ride to colleges if you plan to go to foreign palces (like US).

Too bad they remove that one...but Taiwan government these days sucks...

Seriously I found NO support of these kinds what-so-ever. Isn't it logical that the students who went through big pains to study deeper (like me cuz I'm not that smart) gain at least some financial/physical aid??? they're definitely going to be the people who can withstand pressure and work hard in the future, too...
