The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett
This novella features the Queen picking up a new habit: reading. What follows is not as interesting as the book promised. But it was at least a short book, and reminded me of another short book that I enjoyed much more, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. Both books are about the subversive and liberating power of books, but the latter is much, much better. While I wouldn't particularly recommend The Uncommon Reader, it at least wins points for reminding me of a book I enjoyed so much.
