On editing

I'm in the penultimate round of edits for the Geometry book. This is by far the worst part, grinding through 700 pages of text and solutions and trying to check every word, diagram, and even letter, as geometry forces you to do. I've spread the pain liberally, as nearly everyone else in the office has had to plow through the book at least once already. And they've saved me from making a lot of mistakes - grammatical, mathematical, spelling, and pedagogical. They've made the book a lot better, especially in areas where I disagreed with them at first. So, a tip for those of you writing something you really care about: have several people you respect read it. Treasure the ones who will tear it to pieces when it isn't good. Listen to them, but wait a while before you decide they're wrong. It's too easy to be too tied to what you've already written.
And now, back to editing. Special Parts of a Triangle. Chapter 7. Page 175. Long way from finished.
