A Step Towards More Happiness

The Netflix Prize threshhold has been crossed. Why is this a step towards more happiness?
I equated the Netflix Prize with more happiness when I turned my music to write a few minutes ago and sought out the Tin Hat Trio, which I found by raiding Sandor's CD stacks when I visited. Now, I'd like a better algorithm for finding new music than "fly to New York". As much fun as visiting Sandor and his family is, there's gotta be an easier way to stumble on music I'll like. Like, well, a really good algorithm for matching my tastes to those of others. Most of these algorithms for very subjective tastes are awful. No matter how many times I tell Amazon that I don't want to read any John Grisham books, his books are always highly recommended to me. Their algorithm stinks. Netflix has a somewhat better one, but I think I've rated so many movies now that a huge number of movies fall in a very narrow range around 3.4-3.8. Maybe that means my tastes are unpredictable (perhaps true), but I also think it means there's a lot of room for improvement.
A great deal of improvement in this regard would make me very happy. I derive a great deal of happiness from movies, books, and music, but finding any of these three that I really like is often very hard. Discoveries like the Tin Hat Trio are wonderful events, and better algorithms for leading me to them would make me much happier.
So, I hope Netflix has enough money to make another Prize, and set the goalposts farther down the field.
