Yes, the subject is sarcasm.
This is yet another example of why I'm skeptical about government meddling. (I'll also note that the source is hardly right-wing -- it's one of the more leftist magazines around.) That said, I used to think that the ethanol scam was the biggest raid on the US Treasury going. In the context of the last 6 months, it almost seems like small potatoes.
But it's still a scam, and with Vilsack as Sec. of Agriculture (and Obama owing a great deal of his springboard to the Democratic nomination to the Iowa primary, which he bought in part with his support of the scam), this is not a scam that's likely to end any time soon. Not that the Republicans have much of a history of standing up to agriculture scams. I miss Clinton and Gingrich more and more...
