Yet More on Health Costs

I can't help but think that this graphic tells the real story on why health care in the US is so much more expensive than in other developed countries:

Seems to me that all this talk about nationalized health care being cheaper or more efficient based on comparison to other countries is largely comparing apples to oranges in the face of these data. When they do a study that controls for eating habits (good luck), that will be a much stronger case for whichever side comes out on top.

I picked this graphic up from this article. I don't entirely agree with the conclusions of the author, but the data on food prices are interesting, too.

Yeah, that's true, but I'm guessing that if you could find the right measure, you'd see something similar. (My BMI, back when I was lifting a lot more, was right at the border of what is considered "healthy" on the high side. You've seen me -- I'm not exactly a poster child for being in danger due to obesity.)
