And the question is: How many emails did I send today?

This morning, I was wondering why I've been blogging so little recently. A cruise over my sent items made it very clear. . .

Wow thats rough. But that means that the AoPS company is expanding and thus reaching more kids. This is great. I suppose that comes with a price. Do you miss the days of doing olympiad geometry problems with zabel, mysticterminator, nukular, etc :) . I have been enjoying the olympiad geometry archives and have noticed many of your comments. The problems are very well chosen. Recently, I feel that I have gotten lost in many 'advanced' geometry techinques like complex numbers, pole-polar, etc. But those good ol' olympiad geometry problems bring me back to the nicer solutions with a line addition and some angle chasing to finish.

Indeed, I miss that. But, I mainly miss having large blocks of time during the week during which to write. I have to do most of my work on books on the weekends and at night.

As for your comments on geometry, I feel like there's a point at which students can 'know too much' and get lost in all the complex tools, rather than just hitting problems hard with the fundamentals. After a time of playing with those complex tools more, you'll develop better instincts for when to use what. But for a while, you might feel like you'd be better off not knowing the fancy stuff at all. And for a while, you'd be right.

That reminds me of one of my friends (his username is The QuattoMaster 6000) who's really good at geometry (compared to other freshmen). He can solve a lot of olympiad level geometry problems with just basics, like dropping perpendiculars and parallels, and avoids trig and more advanced theorems. It's quite amazing how he solves some problems. Sometimes where everyone else on the forum uses Ceva's/Menalaus's, for example, he does nothing but draw parallel lines and use similar triangles.
