What I Teach

by rrusczyk, Apr 23, 2008, 6:14 PM

Direct quote from a thank you letter (a letter, not an email -- old school!) I received today for speaking in Utah:
Quote:
The most important thing that I learned from you is how to manipulate things so that you get what you want.

In context, the class was about geometry, in which I was talking about keeping lists of What You Know (working forwards) and What You Want (working backwards), where the goal is to try to get something on both lists.

Out of context, it's just really funny. It could have been from a thank you note to someone speaking at a lawyers convention, or a political convention, or a sales convention . . .

Oh, I see. I got that. At first glance, I knew it was probably in reference to some competition math trick, but it does sound ironically funny. :D

I relate to middle and high school students better than elem. school students, I suppose.

Val gives his input in all the books we write. Right now, he's expanding the Intermediate Algebra class.

I only write books in Romanian. Dave would have to rewrite any English book that I write because he would not agree with my ``hood'' grammar.
Excerpt from a possible book of mine wrote:
So y'all when ya can't find the root, shoul' try to approx it. Fosho.
