USAMO selection

by rrusczyk, Jun 17, 2006, 3:21 PM

Now I can talk about it, since Professor Dunbar made an announcement here. The CAMC recommended that all tenth graders and below with an AIME score of 8 or higher be invited to take the USAMO, and the AMC office has chosen to follow the recommendation. They're going to have a couple late nights at the AMC office, but in my highly biased opinion, I think this will be a great move for increasing the excitement for the AMC program.

That's really cool of them to do that. I believe that SC now has two freshman who qualified for it :!: (one was already in but the other didn't have a high enough index although he scored a 9 on the AIME).

Who was the other freshman, Joe? I know Harry Richman qualified from SC, but who's the other one? Phillip Cross?

Yay! Now I have more 9th graders to freak out... I can just tell them it takes at least 3 problems on USAMO to make red MOP :D.

This means me, obviously. My respect for Dr. Dunbar has grown enormously. I am thrilled about the decision.
